Deadly Attacks Continue Across Central and West Africa
Between 8 and 14 June 2026, ISIS-affiliated groups in Africa maintained a high operational tempo, conducting attacks against military positions and civilian communities across several countries, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Nigeria, and Cameroon.
Monitoring conducted by Syria Monitor – Strategic Research Center documented multiple incidents linked to ISIS branches operating under the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) and affiliated networks in West Africa.
The most significant incident occurred in Mandarajiro, northeastern Nigeria, where militants riding motorcycles attacked a military position, killing five Nigerian soldiers and three members of auxiliary security forces. The attack highlighted the continued mobility and operational capability of ISIS-linked fighters in the Lake Chad Basin region.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, ISIS-linked militants carried out attacks against Christian communities in North Kivu, resulting in casualties, destruction of homes, and the displacement of local residents. The attacks demonstrate the group’s continued focus on vulnerable civilian populations and remote rural communities.
Meanwhile, in northern Cameroon, militants attacked a military outpost in Kangaro, killing two soldiers and forcing remaining personnel to withdraw from the position.
