During the period from 29 June to 5 July 2026, ISIS maintained an active operational presence across several areas of Iraq, with attacks concentrated primarily in Kirkuk Governorate, alongside isolated incidents in other provinces.
The group continued to employ ambushes, targeted assassinations, kidnappings, and hit-and-run attacks, focusing on Iraqi security forces, Counter-Terrorism Service personnel, and individuals suspected of cooperating with security authorities. These operations demonstrate ISIS’s continued ability to exploit remote terrain and security gaps while maintaining pressure on government forces.
The reporting period also witnessed continued activity in the Kirkuk–Salah al-Din–Diyala security belt, an area that remains one of the organization’s principal operational environments due to its complex geography and limited permanent security presence.
This weekly report documents the most significant ISIS-related incidents recorded across Iraq, supported by geographic mapping, preliminary statistics, and analytical observations assessing the group’s operational trends during the reporting period.
The report is part of the Syria Monitor Strategic Research Center’s continuous monitoring project, which aims to provide accurate, evidence-based analysis and an updated database on extremist organizations to support researchers, policymakers, and media professionals.
